HOW TO SEARCH THE INTERNET FOR PRO CHOICE SITES
Searching for abortion information on the internet is a little like walking through a minefield. You are more likely to end up on an anti-abortion site than a pro-choice one. Many anti-abortion sites are easy to recognize from the following:
* Biblical quotes.
* Images of bloodied fetuses.
* References to God, sin and morality.
* Focus on the fetus.
* Images of fetuses at various stages of development.
* Emphasis on chastity and sin.
* The belief that Contraceptive pills, IUDs and ECs are abortifacients.
* Terms such as "the unborn baby is cut up inside you and pulled out piece by piece", "unborn child", "pre-born", "tiny baby", "your baby" and "tiny human".
There are many however, who are quite ambiguous. They do not clearly condemn abortion. They have no references to religion and appear women and teen friendly with pictures of smiling, attractive young women. They usually have medical information and appear just like any other site offering information on pregnancy, abortion and contraception. Their information includes the following:
* Images of fetuses at various stages of development.
* Description of abortion procedures with emphasis on risks, the risks they describe are from the era when abortion was illegal and dangerous.
* Terms such as "unborn child", "decision about your baby", "tiny baby", "your child" and "motherhood", tiny human", "murder/kill embryo, baby".
* "Abortion causes breast cancer."
* "Abortion causes depression and trauma."
* "Abortion can increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy and sterility in the future."

prochoice.com is an anti-abortion site, prochoice.org is a genuine pro-choice site, note the difference: one ends with com and the other with org.Quite often the antis will take on discarded pro choice domain names. If a pro choice site has the org version but has not registered the other versions of its domain name such as com, net or info, the antis will highjack them and use them to deceive and confuse women searching for abortion clinics/providers. Here is an examble below. If you go to google and type in hope clinic for women you will get the following:

The one with the url www.hopeclinic.com/ is the genuine pro choice clinic which provides abortion and contraception. The one on the top of the list with the url www.hopeclinicforwomen.org/ is an anti abortion organization who has hijacked the name HOPE CLINIC FOR WOMEN in order to prevent women from accessing the genuine clinic.Because their url includes the phrase hope clinic for women they end up on the top of the list and that way they hope to catch the unwary. At a glance, both sites look similar, we recommend that you visit both and have a good browse so that you will be able to tell the difference. The anti choice one, exagerates the risks of legal abortion and promotes abstinance. The pro choice one offers a full range of services such as contraception, abortion, as well as counselling. Keep in mind that listings and rank can change over time.
Abortion.com http://www.abortion.com/ A Listing of Doctor's Offices and Facilities Offering Abortion Care
http://www.contracept.info/
At first, this site appears like a prochoice site offering information on various methods of contraception, abortion and sexual health, once you start reading, the anti-pill and anti-IUD view becomes evident, a lot of their links lead to pro abstinance and antiabortion sites. Indeed, the links page is usually a good indicator of whether a site is pro-choice or anti-abortion/pro-life, although http//www.abortionprochoice.org does have some pro choice links on its front page in order to appear authentic. Anti abortionists have realized that calling women murderers doesn't work, so they have come up with the idea of using feminist rhetoric to deceive women:
* "Women are being hurt by abortion - abortion causes breast cancer, and women who had abortions suffer from post-abortion syndrome..."
* "Women need support so that they do not need to resort to abortion. " ( It is true that some women would opt to continue the pregnancy if they were provided with support, however the goal of anti-abortionists is to coerse all women to continue with unwanted pregnancy.)
* "Abortion allows men to jettisone their responsibilities."
* "Abortion is violence against women."
* "Facing unwanted pregnancy?"
* "Pregnant? Alone? Confused?"
* "Crisis pregnancy center - help and support."
Sites which offer help for crisis pregnancy are aimed for the sole purpose of dissuading women from having an abortion, regardless of social, health and emotional concerns - to be fair, some pregnancy help organizations do provide help for disadvantaged women who wish to carry their pregnancies to term.
Bear in mind that pro-life/ anti-abortion organizations are also opposed to honest sex education, contraception and the use of condoms for the prevention of AIDS. Their beliefs are:
* People should not have sex unless they are prepared to have a child.
* Girls should have no knowledge of birth control or how their bodies work. The only time they mention contraception is when they want to tell people that it doesn't work - a good examble is the Vatican theological belief that condoms have tiny holes in them which permit the entry of AIDS.
* Sex should only be within marriage and solely for the purpose of procreation.
There are three ways that antiabortion sites/organizations deal with contraception:
1. Total silence - no mention of birth control, safe sex whatsoever.
2. List of methods with distortion of risks and failure rate so that women will be discouraged from using any of them.
3. Propaganda: Pills, IUDs and ECs are abortifacient since they work by preventing the implantation of the "tiny human" - zygote.
4. More propaganda: Condoms are ineffective.
By spending time browsing through pro-life and pro-choice you will become familiar with the terminology of both and will be able to tell them apart.
* Anti-abortionists, who always insist on calling theselves pro-life, target the young and those who are unfamiliar with the anti-abortion agenda and do not hesitate to use deception and stealth to achieve their goals. However, there is one anti choice site http//www.abortionprochoice.org which claims to be pro choice and even has links to pro choice organizations on its home page. This site strongly focuses on adoption and is linked to at least 20 other sites with almost identical web design - the domains are probably owned by the same individual. The one http//www.abortionalternatives.com has the usual combination of pro life propaganda, facts and fallacies. If you visit a site and are not sure if it's a pro choice or anti, email us and we will take a look at it.
